About Sport

If you think Sport can play a big part in developing your child’s life skills then Spotswood College can offer you the right environment. The College supports staff to organize and run Sport within the school.

Spotswood College offers a wide range of sports which are sure to cover every wish of any athlete. The general philosophy of making sport accessible for all is complimented by encouraging excellence in achieving Regional, National and International recognition.

The natural co-ed environment provides a very life-like platform and is proven to support a longer involvement with student sporting activity. Participation, Excellence, Coach Development and the Resourcing of Sport are the key objectives of the Sports Department. Supported by the Sports Council made up of community members and key College staff every effort is made to provide a quality sporting experience for everyone.

Life long career choices are a real option for students with the development of the professional stream of many sports happening. Maybe your child has aspirations of making a career in sport as an athlete or perhaps one of the many supporting roles that make sport happen on a worldwide occurrence everyday. Spotswood College sport can provide a good quality platform.

Spotswood College has excellent sporting facilities, which include a 18m x 30m gymnasium, a 25m heated Swimming pool; a Beach Volleyball/Beach Football arena, 3 Netball and 4 Tennis courts, and three grassed playing fields for Cricket, Football and Rugby. Staff members, along with many community coaches and managers provide a strong sporting network for our students. A good working partnership with Devon Intermediate School and the other contributing primary schools can often mean your child will already be familiar with the College facilities and Sport staff making that transition easier for all.

Since 1960, Spotswood College has achieved a proud sporting record both within Taranaki and at a higher level. Several of our sports teams choose to compete during one of the three NZSSSC National Tournament weeks (the Summer tournament in late-March, Winter tournament in late-August, and the Junior tournament week in late-November).

Many Spotswood College athletes have achieved provincial, regional or national representative status, with some of our talented athletes competing at the various age group level at World Championships.

The Spotswood College Sports Council was established in 2009, and the current Chairman is Mr. Ross Dingle. The main aim of the Sports Council is to assist the College to offer a quality sports programme.
