About Gateway

Spotswood College’s Gateway Programme continues to be a great success. Since becoming a pilot school for the Gateway Programme in 2001 we have averaged 80 students enrolled each year.

The Gateway programme strengthens pathways for students from school to further education and training or employment. Senior secondary students (Year 12 to Year 13+) in the Gateway programme undertake structured workplace learning across a range of industries and businesses around Taranaki while continuing to study at school. There is no cost to either employer or student.

Gateway provides valuable learning and may lead to employment opportunities.
Learners can achieve specific vocational skills and benefit from making significant
progress towards industry recognised qualifications.

Learners best suited to participate in Gateway are:
interested in a career in a particular industry or career direction
motivated to learn in the workplace
reliable, with a good attendance record.

It is a big commitment for employers to take students into a commercial workplace and nurture their progress. Our programme would not be possible without the continual support of businesses in our community.

Our students are on the Gateway Programme in a variety of industries including;

Accounting
Agriculture
Animal Care
Automotive
Building
Business Administration
Computing
Education
Event Management
Hairdressing
Health
Horticulture
Hospitality
Music
Sport
Radio
Retail
Travel & Tourism
